Today is Veterans Day. My Father served in the Military in Vietnam. He did 4 tours on the front lines, he estimates that he killed around 720 people. My father put his life on the line on a daily basis to fight for this country. Now my father is "100% mentally disabled service connected" I believe is the phrase that they use to describe his mental well being.
Today the banks are closed down and there are a few things that are affecting me as a result of todays national holiday. Every Veterans day there is something that reminds me of the occasion and I find myself thinking of my father.
My father really is a great man. He has his problems like everyone else does, but he has a kind heart and good intentions. He is classified as being "insane" which I guess he is however he takes corrective medication that really helps him.
The medication that my father takes really allows him to function very well on a limited basis. Provided that he is on his medication he is a very nice man. My father would not intentionally kill a bug (I am not exaggerating). He did what he had to do and he payed for it. What drove my father insane about the war primarily was his survivors guilt. He really felt and still feels horrible about all of the people that he had to kill in his profession.
Anyway I am not going to go off on a tangents but I do want to take this opportunity to honor my father. He is a great man and really deserves the recognition that this day provides him.
So to my father and any other vets out there possibly reading this post. HAPPY VETERANS DAY!
